This two-day weekend event features Grammy Award® winner Joe Lovano Quartet and “rising stars quintet” with Patrick Bartley & Georgia Heers along with local student jazz bands from Waynesboro and Chambersburg.
Headlining this inaugural festival on Saturday, April 27 at 7 p.m. is Grammy Award®–winning saxophonist and composer Joe Lovano and his quartet, including Leo Genovese (piano), John Menegon (bass), and Lamy Istrefi (drums). Performing at 5 p.m. before the quartet will be the Chambersburg Area Senior High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Nicole Albright.
On Sunday, April 28 at 5 p.m., a very special all-star quintet will feature some of the most highly regarded young players from New York City, including Grammy® nominated Patrick Bartley (alto saxophone), Georgia Heers (vocals), Alexander Claffy (bass), William Schwartzman (piano), and Joe Peri (drums). Performing at 3 p.m. before the quintet will be the Waynesboro Area Senior High Jazz Band under the direction of Christopher Ritter, and the Waynesboro Area Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Phil Thorpe.

This popular annual fundraising event is held in the Capitol Theatre Center’s Backlot! Live bands include opener The Blades of Grass and followed by the incomparable headliner Skyla Burrell Band. The event will have food trucks; craft, specialty and domestic beer; wine, non-alcoholic drinks, and concessions making it a super fun evening out! All food/drink will be available for additional purchase.
Bring your own chair to sit back and relax or get up and dance! Rain or shine; in case of inclement weather, bands will move inside to the main stage. No coolers, outside food or drinks permitted. The Shippensburg Band is proud to present a free concert featuring the talents of local musicians performing timeless music selections! The concert is scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at the Shippensburg Covenant Brethren Church, 253 E. Garfield Street, Shippensburg. Admission and parking are free; donations are accepted (the Shippensburg Band is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization).
A highlight of this concert will be Slide Ride featuring soloist Keith Davis on trombone! This concert will also feature performances of Symphonic Dance No. 3 “Fiesta”, Slide Ride, The Doors on Tour, Man of La Mancha, and more.
The Shippensburg Band, currently directed by Carl Sponenberg, is a community band that has gathered many individuals from Shippensburg, PA and surrounding area to make music and share it with others. The band is a dynamic group of young and old from all walks of life, some with degrees in music and/or music education, but most participants are amateurs. We rehearse on Tuesday nights between 8:00 PM and 9:30 PM in the Shippensburg Covenant Brethren Church. Anyone who plays a band instrument is invited to come to a rehearsal and join the band.
